Community: Golden & CSRD Electoral Area A
How Do We Define Our Community?
"Located in the southern Rocky Mountain Trench and in the heart of Kicking Horse Country, lies Golden - an authentic mountain community. Flanked to the west by the Purcell mountain range and to the east by the Canadian Rockies, we have a rich industrial heritage and a profound sense of community spirit." - Golden Area Initiatives' Community Profile, 2010.
Our small, rural area is dotted with many small communities:
Golden Habart Nicholson Parson
Field Donald Blaeberry Moberly
Harrogate Castledale Kicking Horse
The population of both areas (Town & Electoral Area) have been decreasing since 2001 as resource-based businesses struggle and tourism makes the community a desirable location for vacation homes. As of the 2011 Census, the total population for the area was 6,766.
How Do We Know What Our Priorities Are?
We look to established guiding documents like the following:
Golden & Area's Vital Signs 2011
Town of Golden's Official Community Plan 2008
Kicking Horse Country Community Economic Development Priorities 2012-2017
Then we determine how we can make the biggest impact on our top priorities with our limited resources.
