In Golden & Area A, some organizations are trying to grow, other are trying to sustain themselves, while others still are trying to fulfill a temporary need and work themselves out of a job. While they may be going in different directions each group needs to focus on organizational development in order to fulfill their goals.
Organizational Development
The central theme of organizational development (OD) revolves around managing change. Anyone who works or volunteers in the non profits sector understands how quickly the environment, resources, metrics and needs of your organization can change. With a organization-wide application, OD can help shape positive results and align outcomes for all stakeholders.

Staff Development - Leadership & Management
The Federation of Community Social Services BC (FCSSBC) has initiated CoreBC as a new "knowledge generation and distribution arm." One of the resources published is a leadership development directory "developed to assist managers, staff and volunteers working within the non-profit and social services sector learn more about the management - and leadership-focused educational and training options available in and around BC."

Staff Development - Support
Individuals in the Columbia Basin can access the Columbia Basin Trust's bursary-style Training Fee Support Program, which can provide up to $800 towards course costs that help individuals meet employment needs. Funds are paid directly to the educational or training institution on behalf of the student and the program is administered by College of the Rockies.

Volunteer Development
Volunteers can be found performing any and all roles in today's non profit organizations. This may explain the rise of a variety of volunteer support organizations across Canada. The Government of BC has created govTogetherBC to share opportunities to "get involved and make your community a better place."

Vantage Point: providing leading-edge learning opportunities for Not-for-profit Leaders, they work with non profit organizations to seek a more effective way to achieve their mission. While most of their activities and workshops are based in the lower mainland of BC, workshops can be scheduled around the province and they are comfortable with video-conferencing events.

Banff Volunteer Centre: The Banff Volunteer Centre, formerly the Banff Volunteer Association, was launched in November 1997 and incorporated as a not-for-profit society in March 1998; The Centre is located in the Banff Rotary Community HUB.

Volunteer Cranbrook Centre (CMHA – Kootenays): part of a three-location volunteer centre (also in Trail and Nelson), promoting volunteer opportunities, events, organizations and training.

Revelstoke Community Connections Volunteer Centre: provides integrated, accessible social services to individuals and families in the community. Community Connections provides an integrated suite of social services to the community of Revelstoke including: Community; Living services for adults and children; Clinical services for families, individuals, children in care, and women or children who have witnessed or experienced abuse; Family support services for parents; Youth opportunities programs for youth; and Outreach programs to the community.
