Exploring Not For Profit Efficiencies in Golden & CSRD Area A
Secondary Research
The non profit research area is much like the non profit sector in that it is difficult to find out who does what. As government ministries that provide funding to non profits change their name with the appointment of a new minister, more academic institutions have developed dedicated departments for non profit studies. While new research is available every day, it started at the national level with the 2003 National (NSNVO). This document has caused provinces to want to drill down further into the health and impact of their own non profit organizations.
To date, after months of online research, phone and conference conversations with non profit,, government, academic and business leaders, a report that looks at efficiency opportunities at the community level has not been found.
Literature Review
Many documents, both from local organizations as well as from around the world, were scanned to better understand the current state of non profit organizations and best practices.
Local Charities & Non Profits
Through the help of Imagine Canada and BC Registry Services, lists of locally registered charities and societies (non profits) have been provided. In the near future, these lists will be combined into one master list. A list of non profit organizations makes others aware of all organizations and encourages collaboration, rather then duplication when new groups are started.
While this is an important start, to make this list meaningful, local groups will need to keep their information updated until a permanent home is found for it.
